& W& p4 F3 d- B1 f- Y4 NI did this last semester. It was a blast for me. So let me explain it a bit. This vacuum cleaner can transform from a canister mode to upright mode as a single unit. There is a vacuum cleaner that was released recently( cannot remember the brand and I can't seem to find it online) that "transforms" from upright to canister. Well, that is not "transformation", because it simply splits into two units! You will be paying for 2 units instead, and while using it as canister vac, the other part will just sit there being useless. Therefore, my "Bean Vac" acts as one unit, and transforms as one unit. It's really a 2 in 1 vac. , P, X, k) B+ T  H2 F/ C3 M

The "Bean" name came from nothing but the shape of a bean which inspired the general form. There was a story that led to this but I don't think it's worth mentioning here.

So I went through a couple of working( articulating) mockups with insulating foam, got 2 of my friends of different percentiles to test them out, and also to prove that the pivoting handle design works better than the conventional ones. - E! D) e% D$ \  ]* M& D& ^

Later, a Rhino mock up model was made and I used that as a general template for my full scale physic

' y, p4 s+ T9 kRegarding the research, other than finding out how a vac works, I went to various stores to ask the salesman what customers look for and what they complain about. I did that in both Asia( over the break) and in the US. Also, as I was hunting for parts, I learnt more too. ( Z/ F2 V7 S) m0 ?) F" h

My initial reason to do such a design is because I hear complains from Asian housewives complaining the heaviness of up rights, and American housewives complaining how weak canisters are. The problem is, none of them actually have used both kind of vacuum cleaner to make those statements! It really all comes down to impression and hear-say. So I want to create something that not only works like either, but also performs like either. 9 a" T3 J% k4 f  Y

总结下,工业设计就是一个对产品的使用、功能,甚至结构、材料的不断的思索过程,在产品的各个构成方面和元素上不停地思考,去找到一个恰当的平衡,这种思考的结果最终落实在产品的使用和形态上,在国内则被简单理解为外观的设计和装饰。两种不同的思维方式做出来的产品就是西施与东施的区别,只仿其型,不知其神,没有思考的设计过程=一个浅薄廉价的商品

你是对的,工业设计旨在提升产品的附加值,即具有核心技术之后的价值提升,通过改善人机体验来获得利润率的增大,最好的例子就是Apple公司。你如果去任何一个大公司去参观,他们可能会给你展示最终的产品,但是绝对不会给你展示这些思考、研究的过程,这是我们现在国内公司或者技术人员普遍忽视的东西。就如同这个吸尘器,并没有什么太多技术含量,我们可以选一样的电机,用一样的材料,模仿他的结构,但我们为什么只能卖他们一半的价钱?
